Ajitpal Singh and Prateek Vats, directors, open up about being among the BAFTA Breakthrough India honorees for 2022.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has chosen ten promising film, television, and gaming talents for its Breakthrough India initiative, which will run until 2022.

The honorees were chosen by a jury that includes music composer A R Rahman, playwright Apurva Asrani, actors Anupam Kher and Ratna Pathak Shah, filmmaker Shonali Bose, and producers Guneet Monga and Siddharth Roy Kapur for the second year of this programme.

With the help of BAFTA and Netflix, the new cohort will be able to explore worldwide prospects for networking and professional development.

Here's a list of the ten names announced for the initiative:

  1. Ajitpal Singh; writer-director (Tabbar, Fire in the Mountain)
  2. Alokananda Dasgupta; composer (Sacred Games)
  3. Arati Kadav; writer-director (Cargo)
  4. Mathivanan Rajendran producer (Nirvana Inn)
  5. Leena Manimekalai; writer-director (Maadathy, an Unfairy Tale)
  6. Nakul Verma; game director (In My Shadow)
  7. Prateek Vats; writer-director (Eeb Allay Ooo!)
  8. Saumyananda Sahi; cinematographer (Eeb Allay Ooo!)
  9. Shubham; writer (Eeb Allay Ooo!)
  10. Sumukhi Suresh; performer (Pushpavalli)

Participants must have the opportunity to interact with top British and Indian creatives as part of the curriculum.

Participants will also receive one-on-one meetings, global networking opportunities, free access to BAFTA events and screenings for a year, and full BAFTA voting membership as part of the programme.

The mention also provides them a chance to be recognised internationally as BAFTA Breakthrough performers, opening doors to worldwide prospects.

The programme, according to Tim Hunter, executive director of learning and new talent at BAFTA, will help recognize their talent on the world stage.

"We were thrilled to present such a broad and diverse set of creative voices to our industry networks in the UK and beyond, helping to identify their brilliance on the global stage, thanks to our successful inaugural cycle in India.

With our second cycle, we're seeing that this was only the beginning, and we're ecstatic to be working with a new crop of world-class talent "he stated.

Finally, Monika Shergill, Netflix India's content director, stated, "India is a thriving centre for storytellers and artists.

We're thrilled to be a part of BAFTA Breakthrough India in identifying and empowering fresh, new voices and talent who deserve a platform like this.

This year, we were inundated with outstanding applications."
